my saturday

so… i’ve had th weekend alone. yes, as you can tell… i’ve been into all sorts of GEEKY things! LOL!

did get out saturday night though. decided i was finally gonna buy myself some inline skates. see… my grrrrl has been an ice skater all her life. she just simply FLOATS around like its nothing. it’s the same for her on her inline skates. i always ride my bike behind her. watching her. being a bit jealous of her.

and… well… i’ve been afraid to try! it just looks like something that THE KELSTER could kill herself on. eh em… knowing how i am.

ok. decided awhile ago to STOP being a baby about it and get some.

so… went to one sports shop. they had an ok selection. grabbed the one i wanted then ended up waiting almost 20 minutes to get help… only to be told THEY DO NOT HAVE MY SIZE!!!! sigh. right in front of everyone i MADE the woman tell me where a better sports store was where i could get what i wanted.

LOL!

then… now hungry and well… PISSED! i decided to take myself out for some dinner. and… there right in front of me was an Outback. went in, sat in the bar area. got myself a TALL GUINNESS.

WOW! how smooth that was. ok. so i also ordered a steak dinner. no biggie… except i don’t really eat meat anymore. on the occassion that i do it is maybe fish or maybe chicken. cannot remember last i had beef.

i slowly enjoyed my beer… my dinner. could only eat half so got the rest to go. DID finish my guinness though!!!

now off to find this OTHER sports store. got lost. drove around. got unlost. the store was definitely a lot better than last one! not necessarily because of service, mind you… but atleast all the product was out where i could get my hands on it. so after much agonizing… trying this skate, that skate… i made up my mind. THEN i had to do the same thing with the safety pads for wrists, elbows, knees. they all are sized different, designed different… FEEL different. sigh. finally decided, paid, then made the drive home.

got home to discover the BEEF was wrecking havoc on my insides in a MAJOR way! sigh. Sigh. BIG F*CKING SIGH!

well… atleast i was in my own HOME for the attack of the killer cow!

that will teach me, eh? NO BEEF FOR ME!

so now it’s sunday. had a quiet morning with kitties outside on patio. listening to music that is streaming BEAUTIFULLY off my music server. doing my laundry for my work week. waiting…

waiting for the little missy to get home so she can guide me with my first adventures on inline skates!

i’ll keep you posted…

ubuntu

so my grrrl has had this sony laptop hanging around. it caused her so much grief she simply bought a new one!

anyHoo… it’s been sitting their for months now… collecting dust. i decided 2 nights ago i was going to revive it. it had winBlows on it and well… it was simply F*CKED! probably from her letting all these supposed IT people from the different companies she does business with screw with it.

sigh.

so after fighting with it all night friday i decided winBlows was coming off! downloaded the newest UBUNTU EDGY, wiped the harddrive and installed away.

very clean. very fast. very painless! all the way remembering why i love ubuntu so much.

now! can i get her to start using it???

three levels of prosperity

“Money is better than poverty, if only for financial reasons.”

– Woody Allen

To become more prosperous, we need to change on at least two levels. First, we must ensure our financial affairs are in order. We need an income that at least covers our expenses. And we need a foundation of habits, tools and skills so we achieve some financial stability in our day-to-day experience.

Second, we must become aware of the beliefs we hold around money and prosperity. If we unconsciously believe we are lacking in some way, then no matter what we do, we will unconsciously sabotage our own efforts to improve our finances.

And third, it’s helpful to understand the spiritual principles that govern our level of abundance. Once we know those principles, we can work effectively within them to attract abundance to us.

“If you’re prosperous in soul, you’ll be prosperous in whole.”

– Mark Victor Hansen

trying too hard?

“Thinking about interior peace destroys interior peace. The patient who constantly feels his pulse is not getting any better.”

– Hubert van Zeller

Are you trying too hard to be good, to be perfect, to be spiritual?

‘Trying too hard’ is an expression of fear. If you can replace the fear with faith that everything always serves our highest good, your confidence and peace of mind will serve your aspirations.

“So many people work so hard, to achieve, attain, accumulate and cherish their fortunes. How many of us blissfully fill our days and nights being the Divine expression we are? This is the meaning of life. It is to be. As a result, all of your creations are a natural outflow from the Divine within your being. This is the joy of life.”

– Barbara Rose

reawaken your curiosity

“What a distressing contrast there is between the radiant intelligence of the child and the feeble mentality of the average adult.”

– Sigmund Freud

Why is this so?

Young children possess what Zen calls ‘beginner’s mind.’ They are awed and fascinated with the wonder of the world, open to discovering and experiencing new things. Anything is possible. Life is a great adventure.

For almost all of us, the systems that ‘educate’ us to be adults stifle our natural joy and curiosity. We lose touch with our innate appreciation of life. We forget how to dream.

The blessing is that with attention, patience and love, we can reawaken our sense of wonder. We can again dance with life.

“The mind WILL be free, or it will be dead.”

– Grace Llewellyn

house music system

well… it’s been one long, bumpy road to finally getting our house-wide music system truly functional. maybe it’s better to say “house-tall” since so much of the struggle has been covering a 3 story condo!

now i can relax into getting all the music onto the music server.

our music system specs:

netgear wpn824 router
linksys nslu2
western digital 250gb harddrive
coolmax external hdd enclosure
(2) roku m1001 soundbridge music players
unSlung 6.8
twonkymusic music server

i found some great instructions here:

http://howtotwonky.pbwiki.com/

the router, network storage link, external harddrive and one roku music player is on the second floor. the other roku music player is on our first floor. on the third floor, my office, i have my desktop streaming through my m-audio studio monitors.

so far i’ve been able to test simultaneous streams playing through both roku music players without any hiccups!

i will keep you posted as this progresses.

what are you lacking?

“Money cannot fill an empty soul.”

– Julia Cameron & Mark Bryan

Where in your life are you experiencing lack?

Are you experiencing a lack of self esteem? Of humour? Of energy? Of love? Of money and abundance?

Whatever you believe you are missing, it is there to be claimed. The first step starts with shifting your perspective. See the glass as half full rather than half empty. Focus on accepting what you DO have, and more will be attracted to you.

“Both abundance and lack exist simultaneously in our lives, as parallel realities. It is always our conscious choice which secret garden we will tend… when we choose not to focus on what is missing from our lives but are grateful for the abundance that’s present — love, health, family, friends, work, the joys of nature and personal pursuits that bring us pleasure — the wasteland of illusion falls away and we experience Heaven on earth.”

ace prago balboa park

balboa-2-07-015.jpg balboa-2-07.jpg

so last night i was taken out to celebrate my birthday… a few days early.

we went to the PRADO restaurant that is in Balboa Park. we sat outside on the terrace looking over a lovely garden area. i had a truly awesome mushroom risotto.

afterwards we walked over to THE OLD GLOBE THEATRE to watch ACE. didn’t know what to expect from the show but i thoroughly enjoyed it

afterwards it was dark and misty with lots of thick fog. all the surroundings, trees, plants and architecture of balboa park made everything SPOOKY!

the pictures you see above are of a garden gateway leading to one of the parking lots. the other is of a tall, beautiful tree engulfed by fog.

wisdom… practice

Sit in meditation for a few minutes until you feel relaxed and centered. Be very grounded, very present in your body. Be like a spiritual warrior. Be strong, courageous, alert. Now recall the most recent incident when you were shaken or rattled, when your buttons were pushed, or you found yourself stewing over something or suffering in some way.

Then welcome the memory, and affirm to yourself: Ah, this is showing me where I am not yet free. Welcoming, let me remind you, is very important. You are learning to be grateful for the upsets and fears in your life because they are showing you where you are not yet free. And you can not become free until you first become aware of where you are stuck.

Now look for the story you told yourself immediately prior to the upset. Something happened, or someone said or did something, or you thought about something, and it triggered a reaction in you. It violated some deep-rooted belief or idea, your story, about the way things should be, or ought to be, and the consequence was upset and suffering. Then, from this more relaxed, meditative place, see how it was just that, the story, that caused the emotional reaction in you.

Maybe the story arose from some rejection or hurt that happened to you way back in your past. You made up a story about it, and it’s been running you ever since. This process may bring up other stories, other emotions, fears, insecurities. Welcome them, too. Be in as clear a place of detached yet very aware presence as you can be. Remember the teaching: you are not your story. You are the lucid consciousness that witnesses everything, that watches thoughts, sensations, feelings, emotions, and stories arising within the awareness that you are.

If the situation that triggered the upset is liable to happen again, you can visualize it in your mind. Imagine the worst-case scenario. See it happening. Then say to yourself: What if this were to happen to me again? How would I respond to it if I were already fully awake, enlightened? If it is a scenario where it is possible to take some kind of action, then by all means use your meditation time to come up with an action plan to deal with the situation. Then, knowing that you have a plan should you ever need it, come back to being the clear, vibrant consciousness, the field of awareness, or presence, that you are.

This is an especially powerful way to work through your fear of death. What if you were about to die? What else can you do but be supremely present, to face it with open eyes, so to speak? This is how a true warrior faces his or her last living moment, without any story, and you are learning to do the same.

You are developing the presence that will allow you to face all your fears, and to see their fundamental unreality. Your fears are just stories and pictures inside your head, with corresponding contractive feelings in your body. Who and what you really are, though, is way, way bigger than anything you are experiencing.

As you illuminate these stories, beliefs, and images with the power of presence, with the clear light of the consciousness that you are, they will dissolve, the contracted feelings will expand, and you will open up to the boundless clarity and freedom that is your true nature.

– Jim Dreaver

go for what you want

“Follow your bliss.”

– Joseph Campbell

It’s hard for some of us to believe that the world is served when we seek our own happiness. We’ve been taught that this is selfish.

If we stop to reflect on how we are in the world when we are happy, we can see how this serves. We have more vitality. We’re more loving and generous to others when our own needs are met.

What activities bring you greatest joy? Your unique gift to the world will be found in those pastimes you love the most.

How can you live your joy each day?

“Spiritual growth is not made in reaction against, for all striving against imposed restrictions is imaginary. Spiritual growth is accomplished by inclination toward. We grow like the sunflower, following the light.”

– Joy Houghton
